PLAIN, SIMPLE, USEFUL
Terence founds the Conran Design Group with the aim to design contemporary furniture and interiors for a new generation, developing the singular Conran vision, philosophy and aesthetic.
1959
A CHANGE OF SCENERY
The Conran Design Group relocates to Hanway Place, just off London’s Oxford Street, in a move that marked the introduction of graphic design into the business. It was the first group of its kind to boast such a portfolio of skills.
1962
LEADER OF THE FLAT-PACK
The first of its kind in the UK, Terence opens an innovative flat-pack furniture manufacturer, known then as ‘knock down’, which produces easy-assemble Conran ‘Summa’ furniture, making ‘plain, simple, useful’ design accessible to all.
1964
HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT HABITAT?
Terence launches Habitat on Fulham Road, Chelsea, introducing young Londoners to a revolutionary European approach to shopping, cooking and living, with shelves stacked with French cookware and casual home accessories.
